Winter is a magical time of the year, but do bear in mind tthere are certainly areas other than Santa and present buying that should be considered in these cold months.

Weather conditions during this season are the most varied and unpredictable of the whole year, heavy rain one day, frost the next and gale force winds to top it off. Your roof undeniably bears the brunt of most of this hostile weather, so keeping it maintained is vital!

1. REMOVE ICE AND SNOW

An excessive amount of snow on your roof may cause structural damage. Regularly removing snow and ice from your roof when there’s been a large amount of snowfall will help keep it structurally sound!

2. CHECK YOUR INSULATION

If your roof is too warm, the snow will melt, allowing it to run down the drain and into the gutter, here it will refreeze, causing blockages that can get larger and larger in time. This then can destroy your guttering system.

3. CHECK FOR BROKEN TILES AND DAMAGED SLATES

Ignoring broken tiles or slates can lead to leaks. Not dealing with this problem soon enough will increase the risk of further damage both to the outside and the inside of your home.

4. KEEP YOUR GUTTERING CLEAR

Remove leaves, moss and any waste from your gutter. Though this is encouraged all year round, having a clear gutter is especially important for your home and roof in the winter months. If snow and ice are given the opportunity to settle amongst this waste, the chances are you will run into problems in the future.
